I was working nights in the lab and my phleb thought she heard a sound coming from the boiler room.
I told her to go find out what’s up and she said no way was she going to do it alone. So I stopped what I was doing and we trekked down the stairs and into the boiler room.
When we got there there was a large burst pipe, water everywhere, a man on the ground, and someone yelling for us to get help.
I ran up the stairs and tried to call for the code team to go to the boiler room, BUT THE OPERATOR REFUSED. I insisted she call the RN Supervisor and tell her. She got some nurses there real quick… by the time I got back there there were several nurses. The squad was called and I helped moved the body to the gurney. I said “body” because his whole head was blue.
It turned out the man was trying to fix the pipe and he had a heart attack while standing on the chair. And then after all that, someone had to call someone at home to get the water turned off and the pipe fixed.
After that when we worked together for at least a month, I kept asking her to go downstairs, which of course she refused, and since then we tell people when we work together we find dead people!!
