Over two decades ago while I was earning my MLS degree, I worked in hospital registration on weekends.
I was a young woman with little experience so I tried to learn whatever I could from the job knowing it would help me in the lab later.
One Saturday a man came in to register for lab work. When I looked at his lab order I politely said “Oh this is a new one for me–what is ED?”
He turned bright red and quickly left without taking his form. I was horrified when I asked a co-worker what it meant later and realized I had asked the poor man to explain his erectile dysfunction to me!
