My consulting pathologist and I had a meeting with IT. During the meeting, he crossed his leg, ankle resting on his knee. I noticed a loafer-style shoe, but didn’t think anything of it.
When the meeting was over, I followed him back to my office. As we walked, I noticed he had a loose shoelace. We sat down at my desk and finished up a few details, yada yada.
Finally, I said, “I don’t know how to word this diplomatically, so I’m just going to say it.”
“Okay,” he replied.
“Your shoes don’t match.”
He pushed his chair back, looked down at his feet, and said, “No more dressing in the dark for me!”
I still laugh about it.
