We’ve always received stool specimens from patients in a lab-provided container.
Well, one day, a patient handed me a rather unique stool container…the stool was in a big ziplock bag! OMG! It was a see-through bag and the bag was about 3/4 full of the patient’s semi-formed and soft stool.
I just could not believe the patient collected a stool sample in a ziplock bag! I had so many questions in my mind at that moment. Maybe he just wanted to make it simple for himself and just do his business right into the bag.
And guess what the doctor ordered for all that stool the patient submitted? It was just an occult blood! WTF?! He didn’t even use the cards he was provided!
