This story happened with a 30-something guy who needs to provide us with a clean catch urine sample. I briefly pointed out cleaning instructions for the clean catch collection. Then, I told him to leave his specimen in the metal bin.
He went into the lab restroom, did his business, and left when he got done. I went into the restroom to retrieve his sample. I can’t find it anywhere! I looked into our specimen bin, on the sink, and pretty much every nook and cranny. Nothing.
I ran out to catch up with him before he left the building. He insisted that he left the specimen where I told him to leave it, into the metal bin.
Now I’m really confused because I can’t find it in there. I asked a female coworker to help me find it. Guess where he left it! It’s in the tampon bin right next to the toilet bowl! I never even noticed that tampon bin being there at all.
Both the patient and I had a good laugh about it. We just have no clue what that bin is for. Learned something new that day! 😀
