I was a supervisor on a 3-11 shift in a County/Teaching hospital and I went to check on the ER Lab.
I ran into an intern who used to be one of my lab techs before he went to medical school. We caught up and I asked him if he had anything interesting going on that night. He said, “yeah I have to go patch up a young gang banger who had been shot in a bar and it creased his scalp.”
He then turned to the young patient’s mother and asked her “ is there anything in your son’s medical history I need to know before I go suture him up?”
The mother thought for a moment and stated “ you know his father was shot in the head in the same bar ten years ago.” The intern and I shrugged and walked in opposite directions. It helps if you have a sense of humor some times.
