It was a busy night and I had to get a bunch of morning draws (no phlebs that day). I was going room to room when I noticed a couple of people leave the next room I was headed to.
The light was already on when I went in, so I started with, “Hello, my name is Cathy and I am here to get a blood sample from you, okay?” I got my tubes together and when I checked her wrist band I noticed that she didn’t look too good. I checked her pulse and couldn’t find any!!!
I hit the call button and the nurse came flying in. I asked, “Is she…?” and the nurse nodded and left. I went on to the rest of my draws and headed back to the lab.
Later I had to get another draw on the same floor and the nurse came up to me and told that she and the doctor had just pronounced the patient and didn’t see me slip into the room. They were wondering: WHO WAS HITTING THE CALL BUTTON!!!? 😀
