You know how you would say to a little girl that she does so well with her blood draw tell her, “You’re such a big girl now!”. Apparently, there are times this doesn’t apply. Here’s another embarrassing story on my journey.
I was drawing blood from a nice lady, and she does feel a little anxious about the procedure. I tried to calm her down and made up a few small talks. When I was done, I tactlessly said, “You did awesome! You’re such a big woman!”
Oops! I know right there and then I have to put my foot in my mouth. I immediately apologized and we both had a good laugh. Lesson learned, it’s okay to say you’re a big girl now to a kid, but not to a lady. It’s great to mix in a little bit of humor in our line of work. Laughing a little just takes the stress out of the job!
