Steven Brooks, MLT (AMT) & Sanji

I am a Medical Laboratory Technician and have been for 8 years. I work for a hospital in East Central Illinois.  I was raised in Alabama, and now living in Illinois. I’m a US Air Force veteran. I’ve worked with F-16s and have been around the world.

My mom died when I was a teenager, and my dad was disabled. I had to help raise my younger brother. It wasn’t easy, but I made it work.

One of the funniest things happened in the lab was the day I had to pick up a below the knee amputation and carry it to histology. Everyone was laughing at me because I didn’t want to.

I’d like to introduce you to my Sanji. He’s an American bully. He was named after my favorite anime character in One Piece. We got Sanji as a gift for my wife. He is the sweetest dog I’ve ever owned, and a great family dog. And when he wants attention, he gives you no chance but to cuddle him—makes me feel better after a LONGGGGG night in Blood Bank. When he was 3 months old, he broke is left hind leg knee cap. Apparently, it’s a common injury for bullys. I cuddled him for hours.

I was sick a few weeks ago, and he stayed by my side till I felt better. Did the same thing for my wife the last three days.

And oh, he sleeps in very weird positions.

I remember the time when I worked 5 straight nights as a blood bank supervisor. It was tough however I love the department.

Yep I was wondering where you got the name Sanji because it sounded familiar, then you mentioned that you’re an anime fan! I’ve never watched One Piece but I’ve watch tons of other anime! Thanks for sharing your story with Sanji. Yep he’s got a really chill sleeping position 💤
