Pediatric OGTT

Patient's Weight
Glucose Load

Calculate the volume of a 75 gram or 100 gram glucose load based on the pediatric patient’s weight in kilograms.

Formula:

Volume (oz) = Weight in kilogram x 0.233 oz of 75G Glucose Solution per kilogram body weight

Infosys by IGTSoft Custom Laboratory Software Inventory tracker Credentialing Task manager

Volume (oz) = Weight in kilogram x 0.175 oz of 100G Glucose Solution per kilogram body weight

Principle:

Although unnecessary in the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus, an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) can exclude the diagnosis of diabetes when hyperglycemia or glycosuria are recognized in the absence of typical causes (eg, intercurrent illness, steroid therapy) or when the patient’s condition includes renal glucosuria.

For pediatric patients, the glucose load given is calculated based on the patient’s weight in kilogram as compared to the amount given to adults.
