Working Abroad

Hey guys,

I have recently graduated from our local university.  I am thinking about going abroad to the USA.  How much work experience do I need at the very least?  What else do I need to do?  TIA 🙂

Few years back, at least 2 years of on-the-job experience is considered the minimum, longer of course is preferred. I had to take AMT and IELTS, and I am originally from Cebu City where only AMT is available.  I think ASCP is now offered in the Philippines.  I think other states have their own licensure exam but the main ones are ASCP and AMT

@bugsbunny123 @ignicentauri you guys are relatively new here in the US per Ferdie.  Is it the same requirements?  AMT or ASCP, IELTS and Visa Screen?  Mine was almost 20 years ago haha

as for the experience at least 2 yrs is ideal but given the demand now, some hospitals/ agencies are accepting newly grads as long as they have the paperworks:

ASCPi accreditation

IELTS

VISA SCREEN

WES or any accredited body that will convert your TOR to US grades.

Then all of your credentials (tor, cert of employment (if there is any), birth certificate, passport etc)

That’s a good list of requirements, but I have to start somewhere.  I assume WES or getting my TOR to US grade standards would be my first step.  I think ASCPi or IELTS need them, right?  Thanks again @bugsbunny123

I thought Visa Screen is no longer needed.  Maybe its just for the initial checklist with POEA.  Does it still need to be renewed every 6 or so years or is it just a one time thing?

To apply for visa screen,

you need your ASCPi and IELTS to be sent to CGFNS before they can certify it. You'll also need to send your tor sealed from your school and also your local board rating?(or PRC, i forgot?, but surely i did go to PRC office for this),  And visa screen has an expiry for every 5 yrs, i think you still need to renew it if you’re still on your working visa. (not sure😅)

my advice, take your ascpi and ielts first ☺️ God bless. see you soon!!!

@bugsbunny123 come to think of it, I think the IELTS requirement was waived assuming you’re working in the US the whole time you’re on your H1B.  I do remember driving 3 hours to retake my IELTS while in the US.  I thought that was pretty stupid since I literally have to communicate with people around me especially at work in English! 😏

I’m just glad I’m over the eternal H1B renewal every 3 years and finally got my green card and eventually my citizenship ☺️🇺🇸
