I want to buy my first home. What should be my first step? A coworker suggested using Zillow. Is that a good place to start?
Looking at houses on any platform, like Zillow, is completely fine. However, your first step should be to talk to a lender (banks, credit union, mortgage brokers), and get a pre-approval. This way, the lender can check your finances, and can tell you how much you’re pre-approved for (that includes your estimated monthly payment). Knowing how much you’re pre-approved, you can look at houses within your price range, and you won’t be wasting time looking at houses beyond your price range.
