Determines the corrected partial oxygen pressure (pO2) from the barometric pressure at current elevation in mmHg when running aqueous solutions. This formula was indicated by American Proficiency Institute (API) for blood gas instrument that does not make a correction for barometric pressure.
Formula:
Corrected pO2 = pO2 + [0.00023 x pO2 x (760-Barometric Pressure)]
Principle:
This formula corrects measured pO₂ for changes in barometric pressure by applying a proportional (slope-based) adjustment. The correction increases with higher pO₂ values and greater deviation from standard atmospheric pressure (760 mmHg).
